The local newspaper has held an important place in Irish communities for centuries, but in this new fast-paced tech-driven world we live in where news is readily available at the touch of a button, circulation is starting to dwindle and the dear old local rag is facing serious challenges. This documentary returns for a new series and follows some of the few remaining family-owned newspapers weathering the storm. This first episode tonight looks at Mrs Brown's favourite paper, the Northside People, which features regularly on the comedy series with fake headlines. We'll get to see the team pitch new comedy front pages for the show to Brendan O'Carroll, but they come into some trouble when they neglect to run them by their own management.
We also head to the Nenagh Guardian where photographer Bridget Delaney captures the unveiling of the Thomas Mac Donagh statue in Cloughjordan, while over at the Donegal Post, social diarist Gabrielle McMonagle goes on the frontline at a five-star hotel.
