Dr Chris van Tulleken presents the first in a two-part social experiment aimed at finding out whether patients really need the repeat prescriptions they currently take. His concern is with the potential side effects and believes many common illnesses are best treated without drugs. He takes over part of a GP surgery to meet some patients and decides instead of handing out pills, he'll try another method. Sounds like a dangerous idea to us, but in one case, a woman with chronic shoulder pain is unaware that some of her pills are now placebos, so maybe he's onto something.
