This weeks foray into the world of journalism, by way of the RTE archives, centers on Derry-born Nell McCafferty. The journalist and author has reported a variety of controversial stories, from the Children's Courts in the 1970s to abortion debates during the 1980s. In 1985, Nell covered one of Ireland's biggest stories: the Kerry Babies Tribunal. At a time of social turmoil in Ireland, the tribunal was a conduit for changing attitudes towards women and sexuality. It was a turning point for the feminist and leading human rights campaigner.
