This emotionally challenging but powerful documentary tells a hidden story of the Syrian war. Thousands of men, women and children disappeared under the regime of President Bashar al Assad into a network of clandestine detention centres – this programme gives them a voice. Using the personal testimonies of three survivors and evidence smuggled out of Syria (one item includes a shirtcloth scrap on which a survivor smuggled out the dozens of names, written faintly in blood and rust, of those who were with him in prison), the film follows victims, family members and international war crimes investigators as they campaign for the release of the disappeared and fight to bring the perpetrators to justice.
