After almost 50 years on our television screens, Coronation Street has launched the careers of many soap stars who have become household names - but the street has also attracted a host of other stars yearning to tread the cobbles. Stars on the Street is a 60 minute celebration of the many famous faces that have walked through Weatherfield, from rock stars to royalty and from movie stars to comedy heroes. Cast members from the past and present tell their stories about working with other celebrities and there are interviews with stars including Status Quo’s Francis Rossi, Keith Duffy, Patrick Stewart, Mel B, Maureen Lipman, Andrew Sachs, Rula Lenska and Noddy Holder, who have all appeared on the soap. Guest appearances started on Coronation Street back in the early seventies when the 137th Duke of Bedford invited the cast to film at his mansion in Woburn Abbey. One of the most memorable appearances was in 2004 when Peter Kay took a part playing Eric, the geeky childhood friend of Shelly Unwin, who was hoping to win her affections with a romantic dinner date.
