The whole "is it Ballybrack or Killiney" debate rears it's lesser-known head this evening as architect Dermot Bannon visits a couple to redesign their three-bedroom house in Ballybrack... or Killiney (depending on which press release you read. We're guessing it's Ballybrack). Tommy and Ann Breen have lived in the same house in South County Dublin, for the last 39 years. They raised six children in their small 3-bed semi-detached home. The children have all grown up and moved on but most of them still live locally, a reassuring fact given that, following Tommy's early retirement (two years ago), he was diagnosed with MS. At the moment, Tommy sleeps upstairs and uses a chair lift, but this has to change. Dermot needs to create 'a bungalow downstairs' incorporating a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living and dining room. The space has to be big enough to facilitate large family gatherings as most weekends their children and grandchildren converge for dinners and Sunday lunches. Tommy and Ann's budget is €70,000.
