Not exactly known for their humility, the Pride of Britain Awards sees our neighbours across the Irish Sea give themselves a big aul pat on the back and tell each other how great they are. Then again, that is rather cynical, for after all, it is nice that to see normal everyday people be recognised for achieving the extraordinary. Plus who doesn’t love a heroic story? Hosted by the lovely Carol Vorderman, this year’s ceremony is being held at Grosvenor House in London with awards given out for charity fundraising, community service, work in the emergency services, outstanding bravery, and lifetime achievement. Dame Maggie Smith and Prince Charles are among the presenters.
