Having faced a lot of criticism for last week’s episode, which included a controversial ‘rape’ scene between Poldark (Aidan Turner) and Elizabeth (Heida Reed), it’s difficult to say whether the 18th century-set series will find as many viewers from now on as it did before.

While Elizabeth wrestles with a life-changing decision, and contemplates its consequences on her relationship with George Warleggan, Demelza's world has been turned upside down by Poldark’s betrayal.
