Part of the Being Mum season, the second documentary exploring some of the more unusual aspects of parenthood, three families discuss their struggle to raise children with selective mutism - a condition that causes an otherwise healthy child to suffer from a fear of speaking. The programme meets an eight-year-old Northamptonshire girl who communicates using a white board, and a 10-year-old from Dover who never utters a word outside her home. Speaking of selective mutism (there is a tenuous yet bona fide link there), The Big Bang Theory is on over on Channel 4 at the same time. A jealous Leonard argues with Penny after she invites one of her male friends to stay over at her apartment. Unfortunately the row awakes unpleasant memories in Sheldon of his warring parents, causing even more tension between the friends.
