Earlier this year, Steve Wright was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murders of five women from the Ipswich area. His unsuspecting partner Pam Wright was left to pick up the pieces of her shattered life. Tanya Freedman's debut First Cut film follows Pam over two months as she makes a new life for herself in Devon, after leaving a police safe house. But how do you move on when your boyfriend is a serial killer? 'What do you say?' asks Pam. 'Oh by the way, I forgot to tell you, my partner's locked up - they've thrown away the key - he's a serial killer. How do you say that? To anyone?' Even after she's moved 200 miles away from Ipswich, to the idyllic Devon countryside, Pam feels unable to escape her shared past with Steve Wright. In saying that though, she's been known to mumble "My life's worth nothing without him." That's the spirit.
