It was a bit hairy for a while, but RTE has secured the rights to broadcast the second leg of Ireland's World Cup play-off against France in Paris tonight, broadcasting the match not only on RTE2, but RTE Radio 1, on digital service RTE Radio 1 Extra, and on from 7.30pm. The breakthrough came after days of negotiations between television companies and the French Football Federation. The cost of the deal, which is non-exclusive, has not been disclosed... Last Saturday's first leg with France in Croke Park, attracted a peak television audience of over 1.1 million viewers. An average of 858,000 viewers tuned in to RTE Two for the entire match from kick-off to final whistle with the audience peaking during the final minutes of the game. Gabriel Egan and Eoin Hand will provide match commentary, with the usual dinosaurs giving their two cents at half-time.
