This landmark RTE series comes to an end tonight. The drama was initially broadcast across eight consecutive nights back in 1966 to mark the fiftieth anniversary of 1916, and RTE decided to roll it out again for the first time this past week for the centenary. It depicts the events of the Easter Rising as they might have been covered if television had existed back then. In tonight's final episode, 13 rebels have been executed at Kilmainham Jail, and James Connolly and Sean McDermott are next. As shots are heard from within the prison walls, the question over whether or not the Insurrection is over remains.
