It is 1964 and, during their investigation of the murder of a lonely old man in his dilapidated mansion, Gently and Bacchus stumble upon a world beyond their initial comprehension and belief, as BBC One begins a new series of Peter Flannery's Inspector George Gently stories. As they dig deeper into the history of former children's home Harrison House, Gently and Bacchus are forced to re-examine seemingly clear-cut evidence. They have a prime suspect, a 'Dummy lad' named Harry Carson, who was once an inhabitant of the home, but their investigation is not helped by everyone around them, including property developer Cora Davidson, either having a reason to keep the truth hidden or choosing to remain ignorant rather than face the shocking truth. Martin Shaw (him off The Professionals) Lee Ingleby, Matthew McNulty and Jill Halfpenny star.
