On average, 500 people die by suicide each year in Ireland. This is a frank portrait of three suicide stories: two deaths by suicide and one attempted suicide. From the film makers who brought us The Asylum and The Hospice, the series looks behind and beyond the facts and figures of suicide in Ireland and attempts to give a very personal insight into the desperate reality of death by suicide, a reality that tragically impacts on many Irish families today. In each episode, close family members and friends recall with remarkable candour the fateful story of an event which changed their lives forever. Employing a dignified and measured tone, the series aims to give the viewer a rare insight into the heart-breaking and tragic world of death by suicide. This first episode focuses on Simon Moroney from Drogheda, Co Louth, who developed depression in his early teenage years and died at the age of 16 from a drug overdose.
