Tonight's programme looks at the tragic and heartbreaking suicide of 22-year-old Mark McDonnell from Cobh, Co Cork. His mother Bernadine shares her memories of bringing up two children on her own and talks about life after the tragedy, while Mark's estranged father discusses his feelings of guilt and grief upon hearing of his son's death. The series, as a whole, looks behind and beyond the facts and figures of suicide in Ireland and attempts to give a very personal insight into the desperate reality of death by suicide, a reality that tragically impacts on many Irish families today. Heartbreaking to watch we're sure; there still must be admiration for the strength of the family to talk about their heartache on television, in hope that their son's death will not be in vain.
