Three months before the devastating earthquake destroyed most of the capital Port au Prince, broadcaster George Hook travelled to Haiti as a volunteer with the Irish charity Haven. This is the uplifting story of how 260 Irish men and women, skilled and unskilled, spent a week side by side with locals building houses in Ouanaminthe, a rural part of the North-Eastern corner of Haiti on the border with the Dominican Republic. 260 men and women from every county in Ireland took part in Build It Week - new charity Haven's first (and presumably not the last) volunteer mission to Haiti, with the aim of building new homes for those locals living in abject poverty.
