Well, we didn't see this one coming, and we aren't quite sure of the reasons behind it either. Actor Sam Strike has decided to leave his role as Johnny Carter after only arriving on the show last Christmas.

The actor is of course part of the Carters who have become a central family on the square since their arrival last year. An EastEnders spokesperson told Digital Spy; "We can confirm that Sam is leaving EastEnders. We wish him all the best for the future."

While Strike also took to Twitter saying; "Thanks for all the love this year guys. Means the world. Decided to bow out. couldn't have done it without you all. Thanks @bbceastenders." And he followed it with; "And of course tremendous love to my Carter family . True love."

The actor was part of one of the first big storylines for the family when his character came out to his father Mick (Danny Dyer) in what made for very emotional scenes and earned the show a nomination for Spectacular Scene at the British Soap Awards.

Show bosses haven't given any of the details of his exit though so we have yet to see just how the young Carter lad will depart the square. Poor Linda will be devo, bless her.
