The hectic, demanding lives of junior doctors are revealed in this documentary series. Set in Northampton General Hospital, these trainees on the frontline of hospital care, working from the resuscitation rooms of A&E to the operating theatres of surgery. We see one ward deal with more than 300 patients every day; one doctor work a 75 hour week; and in a single day, one young medic oversees between 50 and 75 patients. The cameras capture the daily lives of three trainees at different stages of their career. In this first episode, the new graduates begin at Northampton and are quickly exposed to the reality of an NHS that’s facing record patient numbers.
