After 1.5 hours of Placido Domingo celebrating his birthday through the medium of song (Placido Domingo 70th Birthday Gala, 7.30pm), we have three and a half hours of Irish trad music to look forward to (although they're calling it 'folk'). First we have footage of Footage of a concert performed in 2008 at Barrowland in Glasgow by the folk singer and his accompanist Declan Sinott. The pair play songs including Missing You, Black Is the Colour, Pair of Brown Eyes and Ride On. This is then followed by a repeat of Folk Hibernia at 10.00pm - (The revival of Irish folk music, which 60 years ago was virtually unheard abroad, and how it has given the world a sense of Ireland and the country a sense of itself. With contributions by Christy Moore, Paddy Moloney of the Chieftains, Ronnie Drew, Liam Clancy, and Shane MacGowan of the Pogues). Finally, Folk Hibernia at the BBC is being aired at 11.30pm - it's a celebration of the finest in Irish folk music, featuring a compilation of performances from the BBC archives.
