This one-off documentary looks at how our big data and digital fingerprints are being captured and exploited across different areas, and how this impacts identity. Anne Marie Tomchak brings us on a journey by first interviewing some of Ireland’s ‘oversharers’ (those who voluntarily share all their private data with the world). Tomchak also looks at the impacts of connectedness in the world, including how digital fingerprints can be monetised, for example, in retail. Lastly, she looks at more negative impacts of these developments, by examining a community who decided to go ‘off the grid’, meeting a man who spearheaded a campaign against Facebook, and meeting a cyber investigator who has uncovered huge amounts of her private data.
