Although most people associate Laurence Fishburne with Morpheus and The Matrix Trilogy, arguably his greatest performance was as Furious Styles, the intelligent and no-nonsense father to a young Cuba Gooding, Jr. Directed by a twenty-five year old John Singleton, it also marked out Ice Cube as a talented actor. Cube was primarily known for his work with N.W.A. and his solo career, and was painted as responsible for gang violence by media at the time, so him playing a role in a film that was so pointedly against it was really something. It might be dated in some places in terms of some pop culture references, but its message certainly hasn't.
