If you missed this highly-acclaimed documentary when it was out in cinemas last year (incidentally, it grossed Ireland’s highest ever opening weekend figures for an Irish-made documentary), now’s your chance to catch it on the telly. The film charts the story of Bobby Sands’ life and imprisonment, based on extracts from his prison diaries which are read by Belfast-born actor Martin McCann. The film also looks at the 1981 Irish hunger strike, the events leading up to it and its complex legacy. Bobby Sands: 66 Days uses archive news footage, testimony, animation and dramatic re-enactment to relate its gripping and emotionally charged narrative.
