Martha Kearney is joined by author Helen Oyeyemi and journalist Lucy Mangan to mark the 200th anniversary of Charlotte Bronte's birth by exploring the life and times of the author and her siblings Emily and Anne. Travelling to the Haworth Parsonage in West Yorkshire, the trio discover how just two years before their most famous novels were published in 1847, the sisters' prospects were bleak. Charlotte was in love with a married man, their clergyman father Patrick was going blind, and their brother, Branwell, was battling alcoholism. However, by 1848, Charlotte, Emily and Anne were literary sensations, and Martha, Helen and Lucy immerse themselves in the personal lives of the sisters to find out how this happened.
