With the 6th annual World Burlesque Games kicking off today in London (hello to our two Irish representatives, Mr. BigChief RandomChaos and Ms. Harlot DeVille), this timely documentary ponders the origins of burlesque. Just as big an art form as any other, it has perhaps only been left out of history books because of its naked and openly-sexual nature. The origins of burlesque derive from France, Great Britain and Greece and go as far back as 1840, but it was 1920s America that embraced it as more than just a lower/middle class form of entertainment, using it to mock the upper classes and poke fun at what some people would do for the pursuit of sex.
