According to reports, the pop star struck Gigi's mother, Yolanda Hadid, during a disagreement.

Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid have ended their relationship. The couple's split comes after almost six years of on and off dating. They have a daughter Khai together, who they welcomed in September 2020. The couple have apparently been broken up for about a month.

According to TMZ, who broke the news of Zayn's alleged assault on Gigi's mother Yolanda, the pop star "struck" his mother-in-law at some point in the past week. Sources say Yolanda wishes to file a police report, however, nothing has been filed as of yet.

Taking to Twitter, Zayn writes that this is a "private matter" and all he wants is "a safe and private place for my daughter". Here is the statement in full:

As you all know I am a private person and I very much want to create a safe and private place for my daughter to grow up in. A place where private family matters aren't thrown on the world stage for all to poke and pick apart. In an effort to protect that space for her, I agreed to not contest claims arising from an argument I had with a family member of my partner's who entered our home while my partner was away several weeks ago. This was and still should be a private matter but it seems for now there is divisiveness and despite my efforts to restore us to a peaceful family environment that will allow for me to co-parent my daughter in a manner in which she deserves, this has been "leaked" to the press. I am hopeful though for healing for all involved with the harsh words shared and more importantly, I remain vigilant to protect Khai and give her the privacy she deserves.

The 28-year-old also spoke directly with TMZ, saying that these were false allegations: "I adamantly deny striking Yolanda Hadid and for the sake of my daughter I decline to give any further details and I hope that Yolanda will reconsider her false allegations and move towards healing these family issues in private."

According to a rep for Gigi, the 26-year-old model: "Is solely focused on the best for Khai. She asks for privacy during this time."

Gigi Hadid previously told Harper's Bazaar that Zayn Malik and her mother get along well, adding: "He's usually on my mom's side. So, he's smart in that sense."
