Two kayakers on a whale watching paddle in California's Moss Landing got a lot more than they bargained for this week after a humpback whale breached right on top of them.
Footage taken from a Sanctuary Cruises whale-watching boat shows the whale breaching next to the kayak and then returning to the water, with the kayak and its occupants nowhere in sight for several seconds.
Thankfully these two kayakers lived to tell the tale (and actually seemed quite delighted with themselves if the photos of the aftermath are anything to go by) but it's a lesson for anyone ever thinking about getting up close and personal with the bigger animals in the sea. They mean business.
