'Straya: where you're either afraid of everything or you make everything afraid of you.
French waitress Samia Lila has been christened with the name 'Goanna Girl' by the internet after taking the words 'hands on' to their literal extremes this weekend while on the job in a winery restaurant in New South Wales, Australia.
After terrified customers brought the invading goanna to her attention, Lila says she really only had one option and that was to grab it by the tail and drag it out of the restaurant.
"Every time he tried to reach me, I just lift him up. He's quite heavy," Lila told ABC news.
"I just figured if I do this, he's never going to reach my hand, and I was just focused on his mouth. I like reptiles, I think he is a really beautiful creature. I didn't want to hurt him."
"It was interesting for me. I would never see something like this in France," she said. "At first I was shocked, but then I just smiled. Afterwards I was a bit shaky."
The 25-year-old has only been in Australia since November, and it was only the second time she's encountered a goanna and, according to her boss, is afraid of spiders.
It looks like she's going to fit in just fine to us.
