In fairness, it was planned - it's not like his parachute didn't fire or anything.
Luke Aikins, the skydiver in question, is now the first known jumper to make a skydive without the safety of a parachute on his back. Other jumps like this have been attempted before, but all of these have been done with a parachute in case it all goes horribly wrong.
Luke Aikins did it without one. All he had to break his fall was a safety net - an unreliable one, which broke during a test drop with a crash-test dummy - and, if that didn't work, the ground.
Take a look.
Aikins, who is a veteran skydiver with over 18,000 jumps logged, fell at a speed close to 120 miles an hour. That's essentially the speed of a car on a motorway. 120 miles an hour. Without a parachute.
We're anxious just thinking about it.
