Oscar-winner Natalie Portman went off-script as she presented the award for Best Director at the Golden Globes and her ad-lib was quite possibly the most audacious one of the night.
Portman was joined by Ron Howard to present the award to either Guillermo del Toro for 'The Shape of Water', Martin McDonagh for 'Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missour'i, Christopher Nolan for 'Dunkirk', Ridley Scott for 'All the Money in the World' or Steven Spielberg for 'The Post' and the surprising lack of women in the category, and the fact that only one woman has ever won (Barbra Streisand, who was sitting front and centre last night), wasn't lost on her.
After some pre-written autocue schtick, Howard said: "We are honored to be here to present the award for best director."
Natalie Portman then added: "And here are the all-male nominees."
There was an audible gasp and shock in the room after Portman's words, which Ron Howard found very amusing (probably because he got to see the looks on everyone's faces after she said it).
The look on her face says it all.
Ron Howard: "We are honored ... to be here to present the award for best director."
Natalie Portman, done with this shit: "And here are the all-male nominees." 🔥 pic.twitter.com/8JboypiADo

Greta Gerwig just became one of the first female directors whose film won Best Motion Picture at the #GoldenGlobes. Yet she wasn’t nominated for Best Director.
Natalie Portman called it.

And then my girl #NataliePortman names the all “male” nominees for best director! Preach!
— Zoe Saldana (@zoesaldana) January 8, 2018
Natalie Portman mailed in her last performance for Marvel then quit the MCU because they reneged on their promise to hire a female director. That quip is nothing to her.

tonight my boyfriend and i are going to roleplay as Natalie Portman and the ashamed look on every Best Director nominee

I gotta say that what Natalie Portman did by adding the word "male" to the introduction for best director took some serious guts. Did you see the awkward looks? That's the face of change.

Natalie Portman's Golden Globes stunt was so fierce that honestly, fuck anyone who says she can only play the white swan.

The director of Lady Bird, Greta Gerwig, wasn't nominated, even though her film was nominated for - AND WON - Best Picture. Natalie Portman was right to call out that bullshit. #GoldenGlobes

Greta Gerwig’s victory validates Natalie Portman’s comment. Gerwig’s film won but she’s not even nominated for best director? Makes no sense.

Me: "Sucks to follow Oprah with such a trash category."
