That question is why is this still a thing, which is part of the aptly named segment on his Last Week Tonight show 'How is This Still a Thing'. In this week's edition, they chart the history of the magazine's most famous issue and do go some way to answering their question, given that they reveal that the swimsuit issue shipped 800,000 copies last year, in comparison to their average circulation of under 70,000.
