We don't know why Jimmy Kimmel producers booked Dave Salmoni to come on the show if Kimmel was just going to freak out. But more than likely that's precisely the point.
Last time we saw Animal Planet star Salmoni he was bothering Jay Leno with his swarm of cute animals, and last night was Kimmel's turn. It started out cute with the doziest brown bear cub in the world, but then got prickly, followed by deadly when Salmoni wheeled out a Burmese python. Kimmel, understandably, had a bit of a moment.
