It's no exaggeration to call Joanna Lumley an institution of the British acting world - so when some young upstart is rude or disrespectful to her, they can expect to be called out on it.
That's precisely what happened at the BAFTAs last night, when Lumley was introducing Jennifer Lawrence on stage to present the first award of the night.
"‘Right - let’s start giving out some of those beautiful BAFTAs, shall we?," she said. "We start with the award for Outstanding British Film, and who better to kick the whole evening off than the hottest actress on the planet.
‘Soon to be seen in Red Sparrow, it’s the ravishing Jennifer Lawrence.’
Lawrence then took the stage and drily said "‘Hi. That was a bit much, but thank you, Joanna."
Her response didn't go down too well on social media:
How rude was Jennifer Lawrence to Joanna Lumley? #EEBAFTAs

I hope this is Joanna Lumley’s response to Jennifer Lawrence after the ‘too much’ comment. 😂 #EEBAFTAs pic.twitter.com/wUV7GTCtQ0

Wow seriously Jennifer Lawrence needs to lighten the F up. Joanna Lumley gave you a compliment calling you ravishing and you knocked her back like a right stuck up cow. Take the compliment. Jesus Christ! Ungrateful much! I'd love a compliment from Lumley #EEBAFTAs

Did Jennifer Lawrence just give Joanna Lumley sass though? #BAFTA2018 pic.twitter.com/RCFFNPEl2t

Jennifer Lawrence obviously has no idea that Joanna Lumley speaks like that to everyone and is a national treasure #EEBAFTAs pic.twitter.com/gS1iNLUC7C

Somebody tell Jennifer Lawrence NEVER to diss in any way royalty like Joanna Lumley. Joanna’s introduction was lovely. Not “a bit much”. Respect your elders, little girl. #EEBAFTAs #BAFTAs @BAFTA pic.twitter.com/8vkDHnZKdX
