Another scandal broke on Friday night that has seen the NFL once again in the headlines for the wrong reasons, and one ESPN analyst gave an emotional response to the news.
Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson turned himself into police this past weekend after a warrant was issued for his arrest for the reckless or negligent injury of a child. Peterson admits that he "disciplined" his son using a switch (a branch of a tree with the leaves removed) after one of his sons pushed the other one over.
Peterson cooperated fully with police investigations, and referred to the beating (which came to the attention of authorities after a doctor reported the injuries) as a "whooping" or "discipline". Cris Carter, a former NFL star himself, who now works as an analyst for ESPN, was discussing the issue during coverage of last night's games when he gave this powerful and emotional response, drawing on his own experience of discipline and punishment as a child.
