As we reported on Wednesday night, stand up comedian and performer Charlie Murphy sadly passed away, aged 57. He died from lukemia.
While many people from the comedy world took to social media to pay tribute, his friend and Chappelle's Show collaborator, Dave Chappelle showed up on stage at a John Mayer concert of all places to pay tribute.
"My good friend Charlie Murphy died this morning and everybody in comedy is heartbroken." Chappelle said.
Before encouraging Mayer to play 'You're Gonna Live Forever In Me', a song Chappelle says always made him think of Murphy, the comedian shared a great tidbit about the Prince sketch that the two performed on his Comedy Central series.
Chappelle said thas t Prince immediately said no to participating in the sketch but once he saw the sketch on the show expressed his regret to Chappelle at not having said yes.
“Rest in peace, Charlie Murphy,” Chappelle said. “We love you, we love your comedy, we love your stories, and we love your spirit.”
