It’s an interesting analogy and Aykroyd poses a convincing argument.
The news comes in the wake of Ghostbusters star Leslie Jones receiving atrocious racist comments via Twitter, which sparked a number of celebs to express their support for the actress-comedian.
Dan Aykroyd, who co-wrote and starred in the original, has now also expressed his support. He praised Jones as ‘a great writer and a great comedian’ and claimed the abusive commentators are ‘losers’ and white supremacists.
The actor told Entertainment Weekly, ‘These people, first of all, they're insignificant gnats. They have no lives of their own, they can barely pay for the Wifi they're using, probably no jobs.
‘I would say you're looking at obese, white men between 50 and 60, who are active Klan members or members of the Aryan Nation, and there are millions of them.’
Most provocative of all, Aykroyd speculated that the offenders could be Trump supporters: ‘I'm afraid to say that that contingency will be voting for the Republican ticket, pretty much that's what the statistics are indicating, that there's a lot of white racist hatred out there that's going to channel into a support for the Republican ticket, maybe in the false belief that these people share their views.’
