Bodybuilder Romario Dos Santos Alves really wanted to look like Marvel hero, The Hulk, and almost lost his arms in the process.
He was training in the gym and became friendly with some bigger guys who introduced him to a cocktail of oil and painkillers called synthol, which is injected directly into the muscles. But Alves became addicted and had to go to the doctor.
"I remember the doctor told me that they would need to amputate both arms – they said everything in there, all my muscles, were rock." he told Barcroft TV. Luckily, the doctors were able to remove the substance and he was able to keep his arms.
Since the scare he has vowed to only workout naturally. Although he does say he is "tempted" by some other illegal enhancers.
