There's sickened and then there's this.
David and Edwina Nylan missed out on scooping a UK Lotto jackpot of £35,000,000 or €47,618,000 due to a technical error. The couple, who had correctly selected the winning numbers, were horrified to learn that their entry didn't go through.
The numbers, which were randomly selected, were the winning numbers. However, the account with which he uses to play said numbers wasn't topped up. When Nylan went to top up the account, it was found that it was too late. "I am gutted, but what can we do? We have played for years, and had our online account for some time, so it is not as if we didn’t know what we were doing," explained Edwina.
The company who run the Lotto in the UK, Camelot, confirmed that the couple did attempt to purchase the tickets, but because the account wasn't sufficiently topped up, the purchase never went through. "I rang customer services at Camelot and the person I spoke to said they could see from their records that we had intended to buy those numbers but they said the purchase did not go through because we only had 60p in our account."
OOOF.
Naturally, the couple didn't win a penny, despite appeals to Camelot to pay out some of the jackpot to them.
