Twitter have been in the news recently for a troubled few months. The social networking site has had a change in senior members of staff, and rumours were that the site was struggling to turn over expected profits - especially when compared to the mammoth media machine that is Facebook.
But the biggest challenge Twitter finds itself in is the same of any social network - how to stay relevant.
They are now taking steps to do that and the first major one is that links, gifs and pictures will no longer count as part of your 140 character limit. Previously they'd take up about 23/24 characters.
A while back they removed the character limit on direct messages, but were adamant that actual tweets would remain below the 140 character limit - as it's what makes Twitter unique
The Verge report that the new tweeting system will come into effect on September 19th.
So gif away, dear reader.
