The TV and Radio Awards, or TRIC Awards… what images does that red carpet conjure up for you? TV people and Radio people. Perhaps Graham Norton and Fearne Cotton. Perhaps even Chris Moyles or Jo Whiley. Definitely Phillip Schofield, Jonathan Ross and Holly Willoughby… Maybe some folk from Doctor Who. Nay.

It would seem that the TRIC awards stands for "TV and Radio's Idiot Contingent". Alarm bells clang when Zainag (yes, Zainag) and Tanya off EastEnders, and Eamonn Holmes are among the more accomplished guests.

We have TOWIEs (Sam Faiers, Lauren Pope, Mark Wright bursting forth from a turtleneck - a burstleneck if you will, and a few others). We have birds off Emmerdale and Loose Women. We have young Katie off Corrie. And they're people who are consistently on TV.

Even Less relevant fodder come in the form of those who used to be on TV for a spell, thanks to either their own show or a recent stint on Celebrity Big Brother / Strictly Come Dancing / I'm a CelebritySinitta, Nicola McLean, Emma Bunton, Nancy Dell'Olio, Melanie Sykes (I know she has some show or other but none of us have watched it); Lorraine Chase; Peter Andre... Kerry Katona. Pat Sharp. That Aussie who pretending to fancy Mark Wright.

And then we have the rest. Hello, Nell Mc Andrew, Lizzy CundyGareth Gates... Lembit Opik

Even the photogs look bored. Sure yer man there's busy thinking about an alternate career as a Bruce Willis impersonator.

All is not lost, however, our photographer did spot Alan Carr having to fend off Amy Childs at one point. And Amy Nuttall sheepishly poked her head into proceedings.

Compared to last year's guest list, which comprised of Tess Daly, Katherine Kelly, Una Stubbs, Nick Hewer, Rufus Hound, Lorraine Kelly, Caroline Flack and other folk you wouldn't disinvite to your dinner party once they opened an orifice; this year's herd has me very worried regarding the future of TV.

Regarding last night's awards; ordinarily I would post a list of winners, but there were no winners there.
