Pancakes are a great food, and if you're artistically inclined, then you can also make them look pretty cool too.
However, if you're not the greatest cook or you don't have the skill to make you pancakes into fun shapes, then it can turn what should be a joyful process into a rather demoralising venture. Fear not however, as technology is here to rescue you once again.
A new Kickstarter has been launched for the Pnacke Bot, the world's first pancake printer that brings joy and pancakes to your breakfast table. Or lunch, or dinner, it's your choice. Obviously, the batter is not provided (it goes off fairly quickly) but the idea of printing off a portrait of ourselves in pancake format really appeals to us.
The idea came from Miguel Valenzuela, who wanted to make a pancake machine out of LEGO for his daughters, and from that starting point, it has become a reality, and the whole system sounds pretty easy to use. You can choose an image on your computer that you want to eat in pancake form, "from your favorite piece of art or character, a child's drawing, a product image or your company or team logo, the software creates the file and the PancakeBot does the rest".
You can then save the image to an SD card, transfer it to the delicious pancake bot, and the batter is then transferred on to the griddle (which comes as part of the Bot) and cooks up your amazing looking pancake.
The original goal was to raise $50,000, but things have been going pretty well and as of the time of writing, they've managed to get just under $70,000 raised. Pledging a mere $179 will secure you your own pancake bot, which is expected to arrive in July 2015. Even allowing for delays, it should be here well before next Pancake Tuesday.
