No doubt that 'Edward Scissorhands' is a quirky, romantic movie about finding your match when you're a little bit off the usual, but placing that concept in an advert for a car?
Well, to be fair, it's 2021 and we're in the final stages of capitalism so let's just go with it. This advertisement for an all-electric car by Lincoln casts Timothée Chalamet as Edgar Scissorhands - son of Edward, presumably - and Winona Ryder returning as Kim Boggs-Scissorhands, his loving mother.
The whole thing's only about a minute and a half long, but honestly, there's so much going on here that it'd make you wish Tim Burton would just go ahead and make a sequel that didn't involve selling an electric car.
Plus, there's a bit oddness here in that Timothée Chalamet used to date Johnny Depp's daughter and the original ending had Edward Scissorhands disappearing and Kim Boggs never seeing him again, but hey, let's not pull on that string too much.
While Tim Burton didn't direct the ad, he did give his approval - obviously - to use the character and to create Edgar Scissorhands. On top of that, Winona Ryder returned to the role too. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Ryder talked about seeing Chalamet in the costume for the first time.
"It was quite a moment. Very surreal and also just a very very sweet moment for me. I was really blown away by him and everyone’s work putting the character together. He is such a beautiful guy, so talented, so incredibly kind and unique. Really the perfect person to embody that character," said Ryder.
Here's the ad itself.
