Recently, 20-year-old Los Angeles Clippers fan Danielle Richards went to a game to see her favourite team in action, and hopefully get the attention of her favourite player, Blake Griffin.
Since she was hoping to stand out from the crowd a little bit, she decided to make a sign asking Blake if he'd go for dinner with her phone number on it so he'd know how to get hold of her.
Obviously, this got plenty of attention from everyone else (and the cameras inside the arena) which got her phone number out to Blake (who did eventually see the sign on his way off the court at the end of the game) and also everyone else in the stadium.
More or less immediately, she started getting phone calls, text messages and all sorts from people claiming to be Blake, someone else who claimed to be Kobe Bryant, and plenty of other invites to dinner.
Speaking to SB Nation, Richards said that she had more or less expected that she'd get a few extra texts and calls, but the numbers were pretty astounding. The real Blake hasn't been in contact yet, but "I mean, my phone number was out there, If someone wants to call themselves Blake for a day, then we can have some dinner."
She also provided a breakdown of the numbers of everything she got, as the stats on a sort of social experiment of what it's like when a whole stadium of sports fans gets your phone number.
381 Text messages received
188 Phone calls received
174 Texts or calls from someone named "Blake"
29 People pretending to be other athletes
63 Dinner invitations

No junk mail is the real surprise result here. Good job everyone.
