In another bit of fallout from the whole Garth Brooks saga, The Tánaiste is being petitioned to issue an apology to...fans of heavy metal?
That's right, the internet can do many wonderful things, and it may see the power of the people finally get a politician to apologise. The reason for the petition dates back to comments that Burton made regarding the Garth Brooks Croke Park gigs to the Irish Sun last week, where she claimed that the fans of the country star were a tame bunch, not like their metal-loving counterparts, who would be "causing problems for the neighbours".
While it sounds a bit like a joke, it is of course Sad But True that she made the remarks, and, unsurprisingly, they have not gone down well with Irish metal fans, in particular Metallica lovers. They have decided not to Fight Fire with Fire however and have instead started an online petition on the website change.org that is seeking signatures to get her to make an apology for the remarks, possibly because Nothing Else Matters, but we have no confirmation of that at the moment.
Keith Caffrey, who started the petition, stated that her comments were a misinformed generalisation and showed "that she is completely clueless and out of touch". The petition had over 700 signatures at time of writing, and they seem to be aiming for about 1000, which might get her attention. We await developments on this, because we have a feeling that this is going to get interesting quickly. It might just need a bit more Fuel to really get it going, but all they're asking for really is Justice for All.
