Earlier in the year (May 4th to be exact), the theme was 'China: Through the Looking Glass'. Prior to that, it was 'Charles James: Beyond Fashion' and 'PUNK:Chaos to Couture'. So, what has the Costume Institute decided to go for next? 'Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology', 'a course! Somewhere, Lady Gaga is weeping soft tears of joy.
Next year's extravaganza, which is due to be held at May 2, 2016 at the The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Curator of the Costume Institute - one Andrew Bolton - told Vogue that the show will "focus on the dichotomy between handmade haute couture and machine-made fashion." So, in other words, Beyonce could turn up in something from Penney's and a Philip Treacy hat and she'd be laughing?
Bolton added in his statement: "Traditionally, the distinction between the haute couture and prêt-à-porter was based on the handmade and the machine-made. But recently this distinction has become increasingly blurred as both disciplines have embraced the practices and techniques of the other."
As for Swift's involvement, she and Idris Elba (who does like to dip his digits into a lot of pies, fair play to him) have been revealed as co-chairs, alongside Anna Wintour, Karl Lagerfeld, Nicolas Ghesquiere, and Miuccia Prada.
