First things first, if you are going to speak out about your feelings regarding a video in circulation, it may be an idea to watch the material in question so you know what you're talking about. To put it another way, if Earl Sweatshirt off Odd Future had watched Taylor Swift's Shake it Off video, perhaps he would not have gone to the bother of posting this on twitter:
haven't watched the taylor swift video and I don't need to watch it to tell you that it's inherently offensive and ultimately harmful
— EARL (@earlxsweat) August 19, 2014
perpetuating black stereotypes to the same demographic of white girls who hide their prejudice by proclaiming their love of the culture
— EARL (@earlxsweat) August 19, 2014
for instance, those of you who are afraid of black people but love that in 2014 it's ok for you to be trill or twerk or say nigga
— EARL (@earlxsweat) August 19, 2014
And here is the offending video in question. Thoughts? Maybe it's me, but having watched the video it looks like she's taking the mick out of every form to dance 'cause all you really need to do is shake yourself about a bit.
