The latest Global Drug Survey has shown that Irish people are big users of illicit substances, in particular ecstasy.
We sit only behind Australia in the league table when it comes to ecstasy consumption, with an average of 1.98 pills taken per session, while the Aussies average 2.10 according to the findings.
The survey also showed that the Irish population still uses cannabis regularly, but that the newer, synthetic cannabis products are on the rise, which is pretty bad news. The effects of these drugs seem to be mostly negative, with a large number of people (globally) seeking emergency medical treatment after taking them.
The good news to take from the survey is that the use of tobacco is on the decline here in Ireland, as we sit behind the UK, the US, Canada and France on that particular league table.
