Legendary comedic actor Steve Martin has slightly walked back on comments he made about his retirement last month.
The 77-year-old spoke a few weeks back about ending his career once 'Only Murders in the Building ended. “When this television show is done, I’m not going to seek others,” Martin told The Hollywood Reporter.
"I’m not going to seek other movies. I don’t want to do cameos. This is, weirdly, it.”
Martin stated that a big factor in his decision was his family life and that he didn't want to move away for months on end anymore. 'Only Murders' is filmed in New York City, where he resides.
However, speaking on the red carpet at the Emmys last week, Martin clarified his comments. “It’s a little overstated,” he told E! (via People)
“They asked me, ‘Do you think about retirement?’ I said, ‘Well this is it. I’m doing a television show, I’ve got a book coming out and I’m touring with [Short]. That kind of is my retirement — that’s what it’s going to look like.'”
Martin's 'Only Murders' co-star and comedy partner Martin Short agreed with his words and added, “I can’t imagine him ever retiring. I hope not, because then you know what happens to me.”
The two will star alongside Selena Gomez in the third season of 'Only Murders' as it was announced the show was renewed in July. Season two of the critically acclaimed mystery-comedy ended last month on a fairly interesting cliffhanger.
So we can all rest easy, there's more Steve Martin to come.
