A sinkhole has appeared in Dalkey causing consternation for locals. In a way, it's a symbol for the blip that has been the year 2020. Others are saying its materialisation is because Matt Damon has departed the Irish town.
The sinkhole popped up in Castle Street, near Dalkey Castle. But as the day progressed, it became bigger. Thus the Gardai were forced to close the street.
According to the Independent, the hole occurred due to a collapsed sewer pipe that resulted from the recent hot weather. There were no injuries or damages to vehicles reported. The county council have excavated a section of the road so that work can take place of the broken pipe.
Here were some of the Twitter reactions.
