Simon Cowell broke his back over the weekend while test riding his electric bicycle.
The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon in Malibu, California.
Simon's son Eric, his partner Lauren Silverman and Silverman’s child by a previous marriage were with Cowell when the accident happened.
Cowell underwent surgery for his back last weekend and is now recovering in a hospital.
A representative for Cowell said: "Simon had a fall from his bike on Saturday afternoon whilst testing his new electric bike in the courtyard at his house in Malibu with his family.
"He hurt his back and was taken to the hospital. He's doing fine, he's under observation and is in the best possible hands."
The rep for the 'America's Got Talent' host also said that he "has broken his back in a number of places."
The hospital in which the surgery took place was not disclosed.
Cowell’s overnight, six-hour surgery included placement of a metal rod. Lauren Silverman accompanied him to the hospital and was allowed to briefly visit him.
Simon Cowell will not be participating in this Tuesday or Wednesday’s telecasts of 'America’s Got Talent'. He will thus miss the first live shows of the series.
Cowell's fellow judges Howie Mandel and Heidi Klum sent him well wishes as did Sofia Vergara.
The record exec himself meanwhile seemed in good spirits sharing this "good advice." He thanked all for their kind messages as well as the doctors and nurses at the hospital he is staying in.
