At least seven people have been injured in Shanghai after there was a stampede amongst fans trying to catch a glimpse of David Beckham. Three police officers, two university security guards and two students are reported to be injured, according to Shanghai police and the Guardian.
Beckham is in China on a seven-day promo tour for the Super League after being hired as an ambassador for the sport, and an estimated 1,000 people turned out to see him at a university stadium where he was meeting the scheduled to meet the university football team. Upon his arrival fans stormed the entrance and quickly created a stampede as they tried to get into the stadium grounds.
Photos and video from the event show many people pinned to he ground and one uniformed female officer being carried away with a bloody face. Shanghai police are now investigating the incident.
